6 Organizational Hacks for Winning Every Goal You Set
We’ve all been there…inspired to achieve something; getting all worked up to do it; and then falling off the wagon midway to a goal that seems still a thousand miles away. In fact, it may even have become a bad habit. Most of us go into the New Year with serious intentions of carrying out our resolutions, only to have them belly flop three months into the quarter because of half-baked promises or simply the lack of knowing how to finish what you’ve set out to do.
Since the problem here may be inexperience in organizing a plan of attack, we’ve drummed up a program of action to help you smash your goals. Here are six no-fail solutions (unless you don’t do them, of course):
1. Set a specific goal
On your daily planner, write down and express exactly what you aim to work for. Be very clear-cut with the following:
· What the goal is
Make it concrete by making your goal clear. Doing so will help you judge if it’s realistically achievable. Do you have the resources for it? What would you need to give up?
· Why you want to achieve that goal
You need reasons that mean a lot to you. Do you want to achieve your dream so you can be proud of yourself? Will achieving your aim improve relations with your family or significant other? Write down what you think your story will be when you get what you want.
2. Preparing a mindset
Much of the reasons why we fall short of our objectives is that we get sidetracked by our negative thoughts. Reading inspirational books on positivity can help you work on your attitude. The proper mindset toward perseverance and resourcefulness may spell the difference between success and failure.
3. Develop a plan of action
To gain the big goal, you may have to hurdle mini ones. Write of small goals, the baby steps you need to pull off before you can get to the grand finish.
Include what you need to prepare for. For instance, is the big goal losing that extra 50 pounds? To prepare for your weight loss aim, perhaps you need to clear your fridge first of junk food and start building up a menu of healthier eats.
4. Set a deadline
All plans work within a timeframe. Goal-setting isn’t any different. Put an actual schedule on your game plan. Your strategy to clear the fridge, for example, should have a date, day, and time. And then stick to these schedules like glue. You’ll be surprised at how much you can accomplish this way.
5. Tell others
Trumpeting your goal to friends and family can actually kick you to work for it. Now that you’ve made your intention public, you’ve got to show people that you don’t flake off easily. Family and friends can be your support group. By keeping you on the hook, they most likely will help you stick to your promises.
6. Take that first step
Now that everything’s said and outlined, do the plan. Walk your talk. The sooner you act, the better. The right time doesn’t exist later. The right time is now. Besides, you have committed to deadlines. Don’t stretch these, unless it can’t be helped.
From the first step onwards, track your progress on your planner. Do adjustments where necessary; because despite the best of plans, life happens. But learn how to sidestep, jump or plow through the bumps as you go along.
Now, that you’ve got these down pat, good luck. We’re rooting for you!
