3 Ways to Beat the “Unmotivated” Feeling
Motivation is vital part of life, playing an important part in how successful we are and how we FEEL about ourselves daily. Motivation is vital. Yet so many of us are waking up feeling unmotivated and uninspired for the day.
Here are a few nuggets you might want to know about motivation, how to boost it and keep it high.
The Intrinsic and Extrinsic Motivators
First, let’s take look at what fuels motivation. There are two forms of motivating factors: intrinsic and extrinsic motivators.
Intrinsic motivators are internal, they come from within. These come from your character and your personal goals. These are your strongest assets of motivation.
Extrinsic motivators are coming from everything external. Examples could be a competition with your teammates or an upcoming deadline. Extrinsic motivator usually only works for the short term and keeps you going until you get the reward.
Now that we know these, let’s look at how to keep your motivation fueled up and staying strong.
Beating that “Unmotivated” feeling
Feeling unmotivated is normal when you face something you don’t feel like starting, much less completing. Ongoing stress or disinterest may seem like formidable blocks against getting some “let’s do this” attitude. Here are a few ways you can beat that:
· Give yourself some time to rest.
Rest is crucial. You can easily lose motivation from being tired or by being overworked. Give yourself a bit of a break to reset yourself so you can attack the project with renewed vigor.
· Break your tasks down into smaller segments.
Seemingly overwhelming tasks can flag the strongest of motivations. Usually when you deem a job as super difficult, you feel unmotivated to do it.
Break down the project or goal into smaller, manageable pieces. When tasks look more workable, you are more likely to get in the grind and finish them. Finishing one task sets you up to accomplish the next, fueling your motivation along the way.
· Sit Down and do it anyway.
Sometimes, things aren’t overwhelming or paralyzing. You just don’t feel like doing them. But you know you’ve got to, no other way around it.
In this case, you may simply have to go with the flow, grin, and bear it. Allow yourself to feel all the negative emotions.
But sit yourself down and plow through it anyway. Surprisingly, this approach can actually work. You may feel yourself picking up the momentum after a while when you see yourself progressing through the task at hand.
