4 Steps to Minimalism
STEP ONE: Declutter
This one is the most difficult. Sorting through everything and letting things go takes time, but after you do, you will feel a weight lift off your shoulders.
The process starts by sorting items in categories (e.g. clothes), holding each item from the category and asking yourself: “Does this spark joy in my life? Does this add value to my life?”
If the items are redundant and don’t benefit you, then give it to someone who will truly need and cherish it.
STEP TWO: Organize
It’s time to rearrange and reorganize everything in your home. Remember to go with one category at a time so you don’t become overwhelmed.
The goal is to have a place for every item in your home so when you need it, you know where it is. This makes life so much simpler.
STEP THREE: Branch out
It’s time to branch out and be minimalistic in other areas of your life too.
Finances – Start taking actionable steps now to save money, manage your finances and pay down debt. You will be less stressed and overwhelmed, simplifying a major area of your life.
Electronics – organize your files, clear you emails and delete those 11 thousand photos from your phone.
Try to think of areas in your life that could be simplified.
STEP FOUR: Maintenance
Minimalism is a lifestyle, which means it is a lifelong journey that is evolving as you are.
It is something that you will have to keep up on.
Your atmosphere has a great effect on your mood. When you change up your space, you feel lighter and take on a more positive mindset. You feel more complete, accomplished and motivated to take on the day.
So don’t overwhelm yourself by doing everything at once. Try to keep your focus on it by making small changes every day.
