How To Get Unstuck

Feeling stuck in a relationship, career, or financial problem? Repetitive negativity in your behavior or thoughts may be contributing to your inability to move forward.

Consider these tried-and-tested actions to help you live the best life you can today.

Let Go of Negative Memories

Unpleasant memories can hold you back because they are often difficult to work through and forget. Letting go is difficult. But you can discharge the power of bad memories by meditating your way through negative emotions.

Try meditative techniques such as these to help you learn how to deal with them.

Breathe to Relax

If a memory is triggering a negative feeling, start to breathe slowly and deeply. Imagine negativity pouring out of your body as you exhale. While holding that memory, let go of the pain through your controlled exhalations. This will help you connect a better emotional state to the same memory.

Visualize Cleansing

When a flashback sparks a bad mood, imagine its negativity being cleansed away. Sit comfortably, close your eyes, and place your hand over your heart. Focus on your heart and picture a ray of light breaking through, pushing out the darkness. Visualize that light spreading slowly throughout the body, purging negativity and restoring your body and spirit.

Recognize the Emotion and Set It Free

Accept the negative emotion. But realize that it belongs to a past situation that you are no longer in. Difficult as it may seem, try to remember if anything valuable can be learned from the experience. Then, open up and let that emotion go. Past is past; you’re in a different reality now.

Change Negative Beliefs

Free yourself from a negative self-concept. Change your narrative and your mindset so you can get out of your self-inflicted rut.

Fears, insecurities, and self-doubt often lead you to devalue yourself. Persistent thoughts such as “I’m the queen of hard luck”, “I’m not good enough”, or “I’ll never make it”, can bring down your emotional well-being and motivation.

Rather than be consumed by seemingly undeniable “truths” about yourself, try challenging these beliefs. Separate facts and constructive criticism from people’s opinions or useless critiques.

Focus on the Present

Live for the moment. Don’t let your past define you. Be aware when your mindset starts getting stuck in the past. When it does, re-center yourself in the present. Practice meditative techniques to bring back an inner balance, allowing your forward movement.

Getting unstuck takes self-discipline, work, and the determination to change. You must resolve to alter the way you think about yourself and your abilities. Discharge debilitating feelings from bad memories and live in the moment.
